Hello???
Liz  Nov 8, 06 - 6:49 AM | Hello??? So, is anyone else having an issue with the EW board?  I've tried a couple different ways to bring it up, but all I seem to be getting is the article. The message part of the board is nowhere to be seen. Is it just me? I need my LOST fix!  |

I'm new(er) to the EW board, so this is the first time I've been around when Roseman was posting, but I just had this feeling that he wouldn't post such things knowing how censored the EW board is. On the HORSE subject: Every time he posts I'm pretty sure it's him. And, of course, most of the time we all know when he's impersonating someone else. The problem I have is there's a little part of me that wonders if it's just someone new to the board who really just has a legit question. Sigh...I hope he didn't ruin it for the rest of us.  |

You're right about his making it difficult for us to attempt to enjoy a conversation with a new person or even with one of the regulars! It is taking the fun out of it for me. |

If the EW webmaster is aware of HORSE's abuse, they may be taking steps with his ISP to discipline him. There are a lot of things that the trolls can do that are just annoying but that we have to put up with. If HORSE went too far and brought on disciplinary action, the matter may actually get resolved... |

I just hope EW didn't shut the board down because of him. I wish there was a way to block certain computers from accessing the board if there are enough complaints about them. |

| wesb Nov 8th, 2006 - 8:18 AM | Re: Hello??? If the EW site is run with any level of competency, they have the IP address and time for every entry posted to the board. They'll also have a log of each entry. If they detect abuse, particularly if it prevents the board from operating, they can check which ISP owns HORSE's IP address and complain to them. With the times of each entry, the ISP can then trace it back to the individual user. Then it's up to THEM to do the disciplining. If they do nothing, EW always has the option of locking the ISP out of its board. |

Of course, it may have all come to their attention due to an irate email from a lurker... The downside is that it may take a while to resolve it, and since the show is about to go on hiatus, they may not see much need to restart it 'till February. When they do, it may require us to register to post, and for us to log in and use a password. Fortunately, GB has provided a refuge here for us. I think of is as the "purple" hatch... |

| LOSTbean Nov 8th, 2006 - 8:44 AM | Re: Hello??? sawsee-i thought of something like you suggested...using a code or code name of some sort so us GB'ers knew what was real and what wasn't. i thought about inserting a symbol in a word we'd use almost every post (like maybe L*ST...which is LOST where the O has been replaced with the asterick, obviously). i figured even if we changed to a different pen name, he'd start usurping that too, and then we'd never know who was who! wes-the purple hatch-i love it! goes with GB's colors too!  i hope they do trace stuff back to his IP address (cuz if he's at work, he'll get in trouble at work as well, not just with EW-nanee nanee boo boo!), but i will certainly be happy to report his antics should the board come back up and he shows up again. i was appalled at his rapper/taye digs/all black actors do drugs and rapping comments yesterday, but i held my tongue. some people can make a fool of themselves with no assistance from anyone else.  |

I suspect that one of them finally had enough and clicked the email link to complain yesterday. But if anyone else wants to send another email, by all means go to it. They may actually send you a response that lets you know what's going on and how long to expect the disruption. |

Although, Wesb's suggestion may be the best : "Head for the Purple Hatch!!" Lady: Yes, I'll try emailing EW when 'horse' is on. I believe EW want us to be on their board as much as possible as that's how they collect revenue from their advertisers. The more visits to a page, the more revenue EW collects. However, I often wondered if they are upset when we 'bookmark' the board as we then bypass their 'route', reducing their revenue. I know it is a bit of a hassle to find the board through the main EW page, but if we did, it would give more reason for EW to continue offering the service. |

If not, they'll still have a log of all postings, and the IP address of the person who sent them. They'll be finding one or two IP addresses that are posting under a lot of different names, and the harassing/offensive nature of the text shouldn't be too hard to find. If they're actually doing something about it, they'll be able to spot the proper culprit faster'n Locke can skin a boar... |
