First Show of the New Season (WARNING: Obscenity-filled rant!)
| Monica Oct 4, 06 - 6:50 PM | First Show of the New Season (WARNING: Obscenity-filled rant!) WHAT THE HELL IS UP WITH THESE GOD**** **********ING PIECE OF **** COMMERCIALS?!?!!? I MEAN, HOLY ******* CHRIST! CAN WE GO MORE THAN FIVE ******* MINUTES WITHOUT A COMMERCIAL?!?! THIS EPISODE IS NOT THAT SUSPENSEFUL! Sorry, everyone. Had to get that out because I can bet my neighbors are tired of hearing me yell it. Did anyone else feel the same? |
| wesb Oct 4th, 2006 - 7:09 PM | Well, I'm wondering if we timed it, whether we really just saw a half hour show. You're right that it wasn't suspenseful, but it was interesting, in its own way... |
| Monica Oct 4th, 2006 - 7:09 PM | That rant wasn't as emphatic as I had hoped after all. The asterisks just don't let me emote as much the actual obscenities. Darn this thing for denying me of that! Darn it, I say! |
sawsee Oct 4th, 2006 - 7:12 PM | Hello Monica! Yes, it seemed like a very commercial-filled show. Personally,I am very frustrated after watching the first show! Instead of answers all we get are more questions! When I think we are only going to see, what 6 shows and then a 2 month break.... AAAAArrrrrrHHHHHH!!! |
sawsee Oct 4th, 2006 - 7:14 PM | Hey (canuckism) Wes! Well, what did you think!!??? |
| Monica Oct 4th, 2006 - 7:16 PM | Hello to you to sawsee! And hello wesb! I kept reading all of these articles about all of the ANSWERS we would get and they all reference the premiere! I'm sure now that they meant throughout the season or throughout the first part of the season, but I'm still upset at all the misrepresentation. I don't think this episode answered a single question other than "Do the Others really live in huts?" and "What is unHenry's real name?" What IS it, by the way? I didn't catch what she called him at the end. Was it Ben? |
sawsee Oct 4th, 2006 - 7:16 PM | I thought the mini-cult commune was interesting, but what was with all the dharma mind games?? Dharma are the "good guys"?? I don't think so! |
| wesb Oct 4th, 2006 - 7:17 PM | **TWO** month break? Isn't it going to stretch from mid-Noveber into February? |
sawsee Oct 4th, 2006 - 7:18 PM | Ya, I believe unhenry said "Ben". I think, as viewers, we needed to see more answers. The others seemed surprised by the flight?? |
| Monica Oct 4th, 2006 - 7:19 PM | Actually, if the commercial continue like this, we are only going to get the equivalent of 3 full episodes before the long hiatus. And that really blows. Also, there was so much hype about how the premiere was going to "blow you away" - um, no. I would call this episode 100% so-so. |
sawsee Oct 4th, 2006 - 7:19 PM | Wes: I believe it is until late november until late Jan. or early feb! To delay this much, we need to see more!!!! |
sawsee Oct 4th, 2006 - 7:21 PM | It seemed more like a teaser than a show! |
| Monica Oct 4th, 2006 - 7:21 PM | Yeah, I think it's a 13-week hiatus - so a little over 3 months. Total BS! The Others did seem surprised by the flight. If they were surprised, how do they know all about Jack and, I'm assuming, the rest of the survivors? |
sawsee Oct 4th, 2006 - 7:22 PM | How did they get all those details about Jack??? |
| wesb Oct 4th, 2006 - 7:24 PM | I think that the show did give a lot of information, if we think carefully about what we saw. For example, we see the plane actually breaking up. That rules out theories about the crash being faked. We see that it was a surprise to the Others. Rules out theories that the crash was arranged by them. Juliet spoke about the Dharma Initiative in reference to what "we" were. That says that the Others are some remnant or derivative of them; not some new organization. I'm sure I can think of others.... |
| Prettyeyes Oct 4th, 2006 - 7:24 PM | Did not live up to all the hype....BUT I guess it was ok... I wanted to know know the folks are in the hatch |
| Monica Oct 4th, 2006 - 7:24 PM | And excuse me, but even though the episode preview for next week (or probably, for the rest of the season the way it's going so far with giving us answers) shows that Sawyer and Kate make out, I still want her to be with Jack. I don't see this woman as a love interest for Jack. I don't like her. And did anyone else get ****** at Doc Jensen on the EW site? First, he hyped this premiere like everyone else, leading us into this big let-down. Second, he said at the end of last season that we would get all of these theories of his in full detail. All we got was the one about Desmond and Penelope! What a crock of ****! |
| Monica Oct 4th, 2006 - 7:26 PM | OH YEAH! Prettyeyes - how could I forget to rant about that!?!?! Not ONE glimpse of the other survivors! What the **** is that about? How could they? |
| Prettyeyes Oct 4th, 2006 - 7:26 PM | 'cuse me how the folks are doing in the hatch |
| Monica Oct 4th, 2006 - 7:27 PM | On a positive note... I am so excited that the EW board should be back up and running tomorrow! YAY |
sawsee Oct 4th, 2006 - 7:28 PM | Wes: You are the calm rational one! And "Hello" Prettyeyes! |
| Prettyeyes Oct 4th, 2006 - 7:30 PM | hi all!!!!!!!!! now we know where the polar bears lived |
| Monica Oct 4th, 2006 - 7:31 PM | Wes - sawsee is right about you and you are probably right about the show. I was just so distracted by the commercial breaks happening so often that I couldn't concentrate on what information was actually given. Good thing I taped it so I can watch it again and fast forward through the commercials. |
| wesb Oct 4th, 2006 - 7:35 PM | The fact that they knew all about Jack though his arrival on the island was a surprise to them suggests that they're not isolated from the world, and have more than a little influence outside. This answers what would be a question about the semi-deteriorated condition of their facilities. All the rust and ruin might first suggest that they too were stranded on the island. The information they got about Jack tells us they're not. I think we may have presumed that they were going to just lay out Big Answers. Actually, they're dropping loads and loads of little clues. Think in terms of a mystery novel; we're not at the end where all is explained; we're in the middle, sorting out all the clues. I think we got a reasonable share tonight, though I'll admit it wasn't what I'd expected... |
sawsee Oct 4th, 2006 - 7:36 PM | Why would Kate willingly put on the handcuffs? Why were wrists bruised/bloody-looking when she was put in the cage? Were they torturing her? I wonder is Jack's ex is Claire's sister? |
| Lady-in-Gray Oct 4th, 2006 - 7:38 PM | Since I can't sit still very long, the commercials don't bother me. I go do something else for 3.5 minutes. I enjoyed the show and got a lot out of it. |
| Monica Oct 4th, 2006 - 7:41 PM | And I wonder what Ben (the psycho formerly known as unHenry) meant when he said that "the next two week are going to be very unpleasant." |
sawsee Oct 4th, 2006 - 7:41 PM | Hello Lady! I think Wes should be our calm therapist! He can point out all the good things while I sit here and rock back and forth! |
| Monica Oct 4th, 2006 - 7:42 PM | All I really know after seeing this episode is how much work Beaner is going to have updating the list of questions. Poor Beaner. |
| wesb Oct 4th, 2006 - 7:43 PM | You're wise to have taped the show to be able to watch it over. (I should have done something like that...) All in all, they're taking the show in a new direction, just as they did with the start of season 2. (In fact, the very start of season 3 was a lot like the start of season 2 -- there's music, some unknown people doing mundane things, and you wonder in a panic whether you're on the wrong channel and you're missing Lost...) |
| Lady-in-Gray Oct 4th, 2006 - 7:43 PM | Hey, sawsee! How's the beet crop? |
| Monica Oct 4th, 2006 - 7:45 PM | Hi Lady! I'm with sawsee. Reading Wes' comments makes me feel semi-peaceful about what I saw tonight. I wasn't quite at the rocking back and forth stage, but I was REAL close. And if I were Jack, I would have grabbed that tranq gun instead of the broken dish piece (is that what it was he had?). It would have been much more useful and he had to bend to pick the other thing up anyway. He could have handled that chick for another couple of feet to the tranq gun. |
| Prettyeyes Oct 4th, 2006 - 7:46 PM | hi Lady |
| padine Oct 4th, 2006 - 7:47 PM | so every episode in season 1 and 2 had flashbacks where you would see a little cameo of someone else on the island in the backround of the flash back (hurly on the tv, sawyer in the jail, or hitting the car door when jacks dad was getting out of the car..... ) Did I miss the cameo on this one? I didn't see anyone. |
| Lady-in-Gray Oct 4th, 2006 - 7:48 PM | Wes, did you notice that both songs were heard on previous episodes? One in the hatch (Downtown) which Desmond played and the other was picked up on the radio by Hurley and Sayid (the 40's song)? |
| Prettyeyes Oct 4th, 2006 - 7:49 PM | Hey we might have to go to the chat room before we use up GB's message space LOL |
sawsee Oct 4th, 2006 - 7:50 PM | I think Kate could have taken on unhenry AKA 'ben' (of the ben and jerry fame?!) It seemed quite unlikely Kate would have put those cuffs on! Are the others just compiling info on how people react to stress and confinement? |
| Monica Oct 4th, 2006 - 7:53 PM | Hi padine - I didn't notice any cameos either. |
| Prettyeyes Oct 4th, 2006 - 7:54 PM | I notice too that they keep coming up with the times. was that music not on a CD rather than an album? |
| Monica Oct 4th, 2006 - 7:54 PM | Oh and who was that young guy in the cage across from Sawyer's and where did they take him and what did they do with him after they made him apologize? And if I were Sawyer, I would have been ready for the freakin' tranquilizer darts! He should have tackled that b*tch! |
| padine Oct 4th, 2006 - 7:55 PM | Hi Monica. I'll have to watch it again. And I completely agree. if you cut out the commercials you might get 35-40 minutes if we are lucky. That was pretty bad.... |
| Prettyeyes Oct 4th, 2006 - 7:57 PM | Ben also said that Kate was going to have a unpleasant 2 weeks.... that could be the entire season in LOST time |
| bil-a-bong Oct 4th, 2006 - 8:00 PM | Got to get to bed, I'm in conference next two days, but... I was a disapointed .... the pace just didn't seem right and some stuff seemed too contrived. |
| wesb Oct 4th, 2006 - 8:01 PM | LIG - Very obsservant! No, I hadn't noticed that... sawsee - about Kate putting on the cuffs, I think that was just another example of Henry/Ben's manipulation skills. His comment "Then you won't get any coffee," perfectly choreographed with his operating of the coffee press, is a brilliant example of his short, simple comments that play such deep mind games. His answer shows that if Kate chooses to be uncooperative it's no deep concern to him, that it'll cost Kate something she's like dearly, and that she has a choice, but there's only one smart one. In the end, Kate gives in and Henry/Ben (Benry?) wins... |
| Prettyeyes Oct 4th, 2006 - 8:04 PM | Benry......LOL I like that..... |
| Monica Oct 4th, 2006 - 8:06 PM | LOL - Benry! I have a feeling that will pop up on recaps on other sites, but I will know where I heard it first! LOL, Wes! I'm out too, guys. Got to get real early tomorrow, but I hope to see you all at the new EW board! Night! |
| wesb Oct 4th, 2006 - 8:09 PM | Benry's comment that kate would have an unpleasant two weeks could be a warning of some sort, or it could be just one more Benry mind game. It's interesting that his games work so well on Our Heroes, but he's viewed with much less respect, even some contempt I think, among his own people... |
sawsee Oct 4th, 2006 - 8:13 PM | Great new name Wes! I'm out of here too, but first one more thought: After seeing the other's perfect little commune (pre-crash), I wonder if the others took the children to avoid subjecting them to their weird mind games? See you all tomorrow! Hey, Padine! How's the Keg? |
| Lady-in-Gray Oct 4th, 2006 - 8:13 PM | Wes: I found Benry to be smug, arrogant and not very likable. |
| wesb Oct 4th, 2006 - 8:13 PM | I'm gonna have to head off too... I don't usually come here in the evening, but I'm glad I did tonight. It was fun sharing thoughts with you all. Have a good night... |
| Crazy4Lost Oct 5th, 2006 - 5:31 AM | Good morning all!! I enjoyed the show last night, although I have to agree the amount of commercials was quite annoying! Did anyone catch what website you could go to to see additional scenes if you have American Express? |
| LOSTbean Oct 5th, 2006 - 5:42 AM | HOLY SCHNIKES-intense show! when it was starting at juliette's house, i thought maybe i had taped the wrong show...i was so LOST! ok, so why was juliette crying at the beginning of the show? was the earthquake the result of the numbers not being entered in time and that whole meltdown? and how about benry (LOVING THAT NAME!!!) shutting the door in juliette's face when the water was rushing into the hatch...if i were juliette, i would've socked him as hard as she socked jack the next time she saw him. i wonder, as has been said, why kate's wrists were so messed up from the handcuffs. sawyer's lines were good-especially the one about wanting the "cage" kate was in. or, when he asked tom/zeke how many bears it took to figure out the dharma fish biskit contraption. and maybe i am just have a small brain fart, but the girl who played sarah in this episode...was that the same sarah as before? if you watch the show on abc's site, you miss all those blasted commercials and you can see there was actually 43:09 minutes of the show. as for the questions, i can't sort through all of this stuff y'all have written (and still continue to get stuff done at work), so go on over to the questions area on GB's site and start logging them. maybe before the long holiday weekend is over, i can go back and see if i can insert any answers that we got from last night's show. for now, i need some tylenol...my head hurts from all the thinking... |
| jas65 Oct 5th, 2006 - 5:49 AM | C4L - http://abc.go.com/lost/ |
| jas65 Oct 5th, 2006 - 5:52 AM | C4L - website is abc.go.com/lost/ |
| jas65 Oct 5th, 2006 - 5:53 AM | C4L - for some reason I can't post the website. But it's at ABC.(.com/lost) |
| wesb Oct 5th, 2006 - 6:05 AM | LIG - I think that the description "smug, arrogant and not very likeable" sums up Benry pretty well... I'd have originally added brilliantly manipulative, as he always had a reasonable measure of emotional control of others even when he was the captive of the Losties. After last night, I'd modify that to brilliantly manipulative to people who don't yet know his tricks, as the rest of the Others don't seem particularly impressed by him. Juliet seemed downright contemptuous. |
| Lady-in-Gray Oct 5th, 2006 - 6:14 AM | Wes, it almost makes you wonder why the others wanted him back..... |
| LOSTbean Oct 5th, 2006 - 6:31 AM | ok, so i posted a little earlier and it didn't stick apparently, so i'll try to recapture my thoughts... i thought the show was pretty intense! when it first came on and i am watching this book club, i thought i had taped the wrong show and had a line of explatives flowing, about as angered as monica! ![]() ok, so why was juliette all depressed and weepy at the beginning? how about benry (GREAT NAME!!!) slamming that door in juliette's face when she was trying to escape the water coming in the hatch? how could she be nice to him after that when he was going to let her die? what happened to kate when she was with benry that messed up her wrists? didn't sawyer have some good lines, like when he asked tom/zeke how many bears it took to get a dharma fish biskit out of that contraption? that was funny! is that the same actress that played sarah last season? i was surprised that we saw none of the other survivors in this episode.as for the bazillions of questions already posted, can you guys go on over to GB's site and post them there. maybe over the holiday weekend i can get them up, as well as any answers we may have gotten. |
| Jess Oct 5th, 2006 - 9:55 AM | LB--I think Benry and Juliette had it planned that he would close the door on her, "leaving her to die" so that she could win Jack's trust. As far as Kate's wrists, I think the cuffs were just too tight--remember that Benry told her to tighten them? I was really disappointed in her last night. She didn't fight back at all, wasn't the same fiesty character we expect. Maybe she's supposed to be in shock. Did Jack's dad actually have an autopsy? That was never mentioned before. |
| LOSTbean Oct 5th, 2006 - 10:12 AM | jess-good question about the autopsy. but, we do see christian in the morgue when jack was identifying him, so maybe they just drew the blood, saw the blood alcohol content was, like, 100 proof, and claimed that as the cause of death. did sawyer have blood drawn-do we know that? |
| Crazy4Lost Oct 6th, 2006 - 3:54 AM | jas65 - Thanks for answering my Q. I went there but didn't see anything about Am Ex. Oh well.... |
| LOSTbean Oct 6th, 2006 - 4:43 AM | http://www.tvgasm.com/archives/lost/002855.php?page=all TVGasm does some pretty good recaps of a lot of the big shows, so i thought i'd give you this link so you can read up on their interpretation of LOST. |
| jas65 Oct 6th, 2006 - 7:01 AM | C4L - I don't think the AMEX web thing was active yet. It kept saying come back Thursday. For some reason, it's still not working. |
| jas65 Oct 6th, 2006 - 7:34 AM | C4L - that AMEX thing is working, though I have to wait until I get home. It's going to require a download of a component. It's ABC.com. |
| Crazy4Lost Oct 6th, 2006 - 7:00 PM | jas65 - Thanks, I'll give it a try!! ![]() |
