Civic Duty
MonicaSep 6, 06 - 10:24 AM Civic Duty
Okay, so tomorrow is the big day when I get to serve my civic duty as a potential jurist. Wish me luck in getting sent home, everyone. I am so not looking forward to having to wake up earlier than I usually do, taking my nail clippers out of my purse, and driving the 45 minutes to the courthouse. Ugh!

what if you left the nail clippers in there, and happen to also slip in your biggest kitchen knife by mistake??? bet you'll get sent right home, well, via the security office...

I say bring a bottle of viagra. When they ask what all that's for, tell 'em you heard that a gal could get lonely if the jury got sequestered...
You'll be home by noon...

Mon, don't sweat it. Is it civil or criminal? When I lived in Atlanta, I got called for jury duty, but got excused when I complained that they, were making me miss classes in grad school. When I lived in Miami, they told all of us, "You WILL serve on a jury, whether it is today, tomorrow, next week....So when you are excused from a trial, you don't go home; you come back to the jury pool to wait for the next jury to be chosen." So I just sucked it up and accepted my fate. Actually, it was very interesting. My trial took four days, I think. Yes, it was a pain driving downtown, finding a parking space, etc., but it was a totally new experience. I'm sure you'll make the best of it. Be sure to take a book or something to do while you are waiting to be called to serve on a trial. You may have to wait a really long time. Do you have a personal DVD player? Don't know if those are allowed in the courthouse, but you could watch past episodes of LOST. (I bought Season 2 today!) Good luck!
