LOST-the show we've all come to love (and hate, sometimes)
| LOSTbean Sep 23, 06 - 11:56 AM | LOST-the show we've all come to love (and hate, sometimes) hey gang...i was going thru my TV guide for next week and the finale of season 2 is airing monday night at 9:00 eastern. that's good in a few ways. i don't know about you guys, but that finale blew my mind, so i look forward to seeing it again (yes, even tho i have the dvd set). also, that means abc is getting us ready for season 3 STARTING NEXT WEEK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i can hardly wait!!! |
| Lady-in-Gray Sep 24th, 2006 - 10:15 AM | ...... and on Wednesday night there will be a summary of seasons one and two in the regular time slot! Bring it on! |
| LOSTbean Sep 24th, 2006 - 1:01 PM | really, Lady??????????? so cool! that just means ABC wants to get more LOST junkies that we can , eventually, draft on over to our blog site! good catch! thanks! |
| Lady-in-Gray Sep 25th, 2006 - 6:45 AM | Well, folks, it looks like ABC lied to us AGAIN! |
| LOSTbean Sep 25th, 2006 - 7:33 AM | argh! Lady, i just checked the washington post's interactive tv grid online and there is no LOST show tonite, but i do see the wednesday night recap! |
| Lady-in-Gray Sep 28th, 2006 - 8:32 AM | The narration technique used in last night's recap episode was very nicely done. |
| Crazy4Lost Sep 28th, 2006 - 9:30 AM | I agree with you Lady. I thought the narration added alot and was trying to listen (which is hard to do at my house sometimes)for possible clues to what we should be noticing. I did hear a reference about time. Did anyone else notice something said that was unusual? |
| Lady-in-Gray Sep 28th, 2006 - 10:16 AM | Hey, C4L! I noticed that they didn't show the 4-toed statue as Sayid, Jin and Sun sailed around the island. |
| LOSTbean Sep 28th, 2006 - 11:27 AM | ok, so in my cubicle here at work, i have two LOST photos/posters, as well as a LOST screen saver on my computer (of the computer screen from the hatch with the numbers being entered and then the 108 clock resetting) and it seems i've gotten a lot of inquiries about them this past week. well, as excited as i am about the show, these are folks that don't watch it so they ask, "so, what's the show about?" WHERE DO YOU BEGIN???? or, i'll be talking to a coworker who does watch the show and someone who doesn't will overhear the conversation and ask some stupid question. drives me bonkers! |
| Greybishop Sep 28th, 2006 - 1:06 PM | Beaner - I feel your pain. When people ask me what Lost is all about, I tell them that it's about a family of adventurers that got blown out of orbit by some cosmic debris and end up endlessly chasing the elusive path back home, accompanied by an evil doctor and Robbie the Robot. It's just easier that way. |
| LOSTbean Sep 28th, 2006 - 1:40 PM | my problem is i get so excited when they ask...i need to learn to curb my enthusiasm. |
| Greybishop Sep 28th, 2006 - 2:15 PM | I find that any "Sci-fi" explanation gets the eyes glazing over nicely. The "Lost in Space" plot I mention above works, but I also use "It's about a young man who must become a knight and defeat his evil father and the emperor..." or "It's about a ragtag group of displaced colonists travelling through space in a convoy of decrepit spacecraft in search of the fabled planet 'Earth'". |
| LOSTbean Sep 28th, 2006 - 4:13 PM | does anyone think the narrative voice on wed. night's LOST recap sounded a little bit like hannibal lechter (sp?) from "silence of the lambs?" |
| qt Sep 28th, 2006 - 9:09 PM | The narrator for Wednesday's recap show was Michael Emerson. |
| wesb Sep 29th, 2006 - 5:51 AM | Hey Beaner... When I talk about the show to the "unlearned", I tend to use broad but vague ideas, to give a picture of just what a wide vision the producers have. Something like... It does a lot of things all at once, and it surprises me by doing all of them well. You first see a survival adventure, with a group of people standed on an island and believed to be dead and at the bottom of the ocean so no one's looking to rescue them. There's no brave "Captain Kirk" to lead them fearlessly on to greater adventures, and it's not Gilligan's Island. These are real people in big trouble, and they're struggling to just survive. It's dark but exciting. It's also a many-leveled mystery. The island has a long history with many things left behind by past inhabitants. There are other people on the island, each with their own agendas, only partly known to us. The mysteries unfold slowly. It contains elements of horror, hints of romance, touching moments, and even a twisted sort of comedy in places. Thee are hints of big events in the outside world that they are touching from their remote location. Lastly and most deeply, it's a psychological drama. Each person is not just lost physically; each is lost emotionally or spiritually in their own way, and as each of their unique pasts are slowly revealed, we see elements of their own personal struggles. The actual characters are some of the strongest points of the show. The premise of the show makes it easy for the writers to bring in new, interesting characters and kill off those that don't show as much promise. As a result, they've fine-tuned the cast into a set of characters that have enormous potential in making the story bigger and bigger. There are a lot of things going on, and it'll take a few episodes to get a feel for what's happening, but it's very well worth the time. It's huge and it's really well done. |
| sawsee Sep 29th, 2006 - 7:50 AM | WES! Great overview! I think I should get you to be my spokesperson and follow me around and do all my talking for me. This way I (?) will sound very articulate! I could pay you in roasted beets or roasted tomato sauce. On another note: Did anyone think it was Fake-Henry that was the narrator on the Lost re-cap? At first, I thought it was Kevin Spacey, but then my wife said "that's the leader of the others". |
| Lady-in-Gray Sep 29th, 2006 - 8:49 AM | Hey, sawsee! |
| bil-a-bong Sep 29th, 2006 - 8:43 PM | Good points on explaining Lost to newbies! I only have one person at my office that watches, so we have these excited conversations on Thursday morning and everyone thinks we are either 1. really crazy or 2. really hot for each other! |
| LOSTbean Oct 3rd, 2006 - 2:35 PM | wes, you are my hero! may i plagiarize? |
