Well, folks, it looks like ABC lied to us AGAIN! My local newspaper weekly guide does list Lost tonight, but my daily guide does NOT and neither does the ABC website!

The narration technique used in last night's recap episode was very nicely done. I'm more than ready for Season 3 to begin!!!

I agree with you Lady. I thought the narration added alot and was trying to listen (which is hard to do at my house sometimes)for possible clues to what we should be noticing. I did hear a reference about time. Did anyone else notice something said that was unusual?

Hey, C4L! I noticed the time reference, too. The music was from the 40's, though. That would mean backward in time rather than forward.

I noticed that they didn't show the 4-toed statue as Sayid, Jin and Sun sailed around the island. Perhaps that isn't as important as we thought it might be. They did dwell on the rock formation. Is that "the black rock" or something else?

Re: LOST-the show we've all come to love (and hate, sometimes)

ok, so in my cubicle here at work, i have two LOST photos/posters, as well as a LOST screen saver on my computer (of the computer screen from the hatch with the numbers being entered and then the 108 clock resetting) and it seems i've gotten a lot of inquiries about them this past week. well, as excited as i am about the show, these are folks that don't watch it so they ask, "so, what's the show about?" WHERE DO YOU BEGIN???? or, i'll be talking to a coworker who does watch the show and someone who doesn't will overhear the conversation and ask some stupid question. drives me bonkers! some days it would be easier to be a closet LOSTie, ya know? or, we could all work for the same company... but, regardless, t minus 6 days and counting!!!!!!

Beaner -
I feel your pain.
When people ask me what Lost is all about, I tell them that it's about a family of adventurers that got blown out of orbit by some cosmic debris and end up endlessly chasing the elusive path back home, accompanied by an evil doctor and Robbie the Robot.
It's just easier that way.

good stuff GB! that answer you give is quite complex-sure to scare anyone off!

my problem is i get so excited when they ask...i need to learn to curb my enthusiasm.

I find that any "Sci-fi" explanation gets the eyes glazing over nicely.
The "Lost in Space" plot I mention above works, but I also use "It's about a young man who must become a knight and defeat his evil father and the emperor..."
or "It's about a ragtag group of displaced colonists travelling through space in a convoy of decrepit spacecraft in search of the fabled planet 'Earth'".

does anyone think the narrative voice on wed. night's LOST recap sounded a little bit like hannibal lechter (sp?) from "silence of the lambs?"

The narrator for Wednesday's recap show was Michael Emerson.

Hey Beaner...
When I talk about the show to the "unlearned", I tend to use broad but vague ideas, to give a picture of just what a wide vision the producers have. Something like...

It does a lot of things all at once, and it surprises me by doing all of them well. You first see a survival adventure, with a group of people standed on an island and believed to be dead and at the bottom of the ocean so no one's looking to rescue them. There's no brave "Captain Kirk" to lead them fearlessly on to greater adventures, and it's not Gilligan's Island. These are real people in big trouble, and they're struggling to just survive. It's dark but exciting. It's also a many-leveled mystery. The island has a long history with many things left behind by past inhabitants. There are other people on the island, each with their own agendas, only partly known to us. The mysteries unfold slowly. It contains elements of horror, hints of romance, touching moments, and even a twisted sort of comedy in places. Thee are hints of big events in the outside world that they are touching from their remote location. Lastly and most deeply, it's a psychological drama. Each person is not just lost physically; each is lost emotionally or spiritually in their own way, and as each of their unique pasts are slowly revealed, we see elements of their own personal struggles. The actual characters are some of the strongest points of the show.

The premise of the show makes it easy for the writers to bring in new, interesting characters and kill off those that don't show as much promise. As a result, they've fine-tuned the cast into a set of characters that have enormous potential in making the story bigger and bigger.

There are a lot of things going on, and it'll take a few episodes to get a feel for what's happening, but it's very well worth the time. It's huge and it's really well done.

WES! Great overview! I think I should get you to be my spokesperson and follow me around and do all my talking for me. This way I (?) will sound very articulate! I could pay you in roasted beets or roasted tomato sauce.

On another note: Did anyone think it was Fake-Henry that was the narrator on the Lost re-cap? At first, I thought it was Kevin Spacey, but then my wife said "that's the leader of the others".

Hey, sawsee! Your wife has a good ear (see qt's post above). That is the actor who plays un-Henry.

Good points on explaining Lost to newbies! I only have one person at my office that watches, so we have these excited conversations on Thursday morning and everyone thinks we are either 1. really crazy or 2. really hot for each other!
